I am not essential personnel…
I am not a medical professional, delivery person, grocery store or pharmacy employee, scientist, manufacturer, farmer, or janitor. Those people are essential personnel and they are heroes.
Me, I’m not essential personnel. But I am used to helping out when there’s a crisis and, like many people, I’ve found it beyond frustrating to not be able to offer more assistance. After Hurricane María hit Puerto Rico, where I live, I could see tangible ways of helping others: hammers, nails, cooking, food sharing, ride sharing, supply drives, fundraising, and so on. Our shelter in place rules hamper these tangible responses to disaster, though.
